Pretty much every real car enthusiast is eagerly waiting to see the new, fifth generation of the iconic sports car, which will come as 2020 Toyota Supra. The new model is coming back to North America after almost two decades and expectations from the new version are huge. At this point, we know some of the basic design characteristics, though many details are still a secret. Luckily for us, the new model will hate its premier pretty soon, already at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show this January.
- ALegendary nameplate
- Powerful engine
- Excellent handling
- Attractive styling
- Very tight rear seats
- Lots of capable competitors.
Just like we mentioned, base design characteristics are known pretty well for some time. The new 2020 Toyota Supra is coming as a production of the company’s joint venture with BMW. The Bavarian and Japanese carmakers work together on two models, the new Supra and the new BMW Z4. Despite completely different body styles, two models will ride on the same architecture and share most of the mechanics. On the other side, the 2020 Toyota Supra will come with its own design, which will resemble the previous, legendary generation, famous for all those massive curvy lines. The new Supra has been previewed with the FT-1 concept and shouldn’t go far away from that design. At this point, we know for sure that the front end will be different, but count on a few more revisions as well.
This aspect of the car is still a bit of a mystery. Although the new model appeared at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last summer, it weared a camouflage while the cabin was pretty much naked. At this point, we can only say for sure that the new model will continue with a 2+2 coupe layout and that should feature a cockpit-like, driver-oriented cabin. Other than that, we can count on lots of quality materials and a full load of standard equipment. After all, it will compete with models like Porsche Cayman, a new generation of Nissan Z Car and many more.
2020 Toyota Supra Engines
The one thing that is for sure is powertrain. The 2020 Toyota Supra will use BMW’s familiar 3.0-liter inline-six engine which delivers around 335 horsepower. Some reports suggest revisions on the engine, with which the max output would go up to 400 horsepower. Also, some reports claim this engine will be reserved for base models only, while Toyota will offer its own unit for hi-performance version. All in all, keep all these reports with a big dose of a reserve.
2020 Toyota Supra Release Date and Price
The 2020 Toyota Supra will have its premiere at the upcoming International Auto Show in Detroit, this January. A few days later, the very first model will go on auction, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Once the company unveils the new models, we will know more details about the price.
