The Hilux has been a benchmark among light trucks for decades. The famous truck is a synonym for quality, reliability, longevity and many more things and the current generation definitely follows the path of its predecessors. The upcoming 2020 Toyota Hilux Diesel probably won’t feature too many changes and the reason is simple. The current generation is on the market for some time and it has been updated recently. The changes were pretty intense, so it would be hard to expect additional novelties only a year later. Still, there are rumors that still suggest a fine amount of novelties for the next year.
- Spectacular reliability
- World-class off-roader
- Efficient engines
- Higher base price compared to competitors
In terms of base design characteristics, the Hilux definitely doesn’t need any special introduction. It is by far the most popular light truck in the world, which rides in all parts of our planet, except North America, where the company offers its sibling Tacoma. The last-year update has brought a lot of novelties. While the base design remained the same, there are new aesthetics, especially at the front, where you can see things like a new grille, new headlights, fog lights and much more. All this clearly indicates that exterior won’t suffer too much in the next few years.
On the other side, not a small number of reports suggest some novelties on the inside. The legendary truck will celebrate five decades of production. It looks like the company will prepare something special for the 50th anniversary. That will probably be a special, luxury edition, which will bring some new styling solutions, finer materials, and many more things. On the other side, the rest of the models probably won’t suffer too much. The current model leads the market pretty successfully, even though there are some pretty amazing competitors around, such as Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Nissan Navara etc.
Although the Hilux comes with gasoline engines as well, diesel units are far more popular, mainly because of much better fuel economy. Depending on the market, there are different oil-burners in the offer. In Europe and few more parts of the world, the 2020 Toyota Hilux Diesel will continue with the same 2.8-liter unit which delivers around 180 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. On other markets, Toyota still sticks to the older-generation 3.0-liter turbodiesel, which is good for about 165 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Finally, a smaller 2.4-liter unit can be found as well. This one features a max output of around 150 horsepower.
2020 Toyota Hilux Diesel Release Date and Price
We have no reason to expect 2020 Toyota Hilux Diesel’s arrival before the last quarter of next year. Also, the price should remain pretty much the same. In most markets, base models go around $25,000 / $26,000.
