The stylish crossover has been around for a couple of years and despite several reports suggest changes for the 2020 Mazda CX-5, we are pretty sure it will remain pretty much the same. The second generation of this beautiful compact crossover was introduced in late 2016 and it seems too early for aesthetical changes, especially if we consider that the CX-5 is definitely a leader in this aspect.
Also, it is important to mention that a new engine has been added to the lineup, so we don’t expect changes under the hood either. On the other side, we won’t exclude a possibility to see some changes in terms of the standard equipment.
- Great driving dynamics
- Powerful optional engine
- Stylish exterior and interior
- Quiet cabin
- Tight rear seats and cargo area
- Outdated infotainment system
The exterior will definitely be one of the 2020 Mazda CX-5’s strongest points. It is hard to find another compact crossover that can match its style. The current generation has been introduced two years ago and it completely follows the brand’s latest version of the famous KODO design language, characterized by super-narrow headlights and massive grille layout.
Still, the style definitely isn’t the only strong point of this crossover. The famous SkyActiv platform also brings a lot of benefits in terms of the chassis setup, so it’s no wonder that the CX-5 is also one of the most dynamic models in the class.
The style from the outside is present inside this cabin as well. The overall quality of the cabin is very good and it is combined very well with the overall styling approach. There is a fine amount of upscale touches on the dashboard, which is rather simple than overdesigned, as it is the case with most mainstream cars.
Moreover, this is also a well-equipped crossover, with plenty of safety systems and latest connectivity features that are standard already in base versions. On the other side, complaints go to tight rear seats and cargo area. In this aspect, 2020 Mazda CX-5 definitely won’t be able to match super-practical crossovers like Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4 etc.
As we already mentioned, a new powertrain option has been introduced recently. So, the 2020 Mazda CX-5 will come in two variants. Base models will feature a familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers around 187 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque.
It is a quite decent amount of power, which is followed by quite decent fuel economy. With this engine, you can count on 25 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Still, keep in mind that this is a super-driveable crossover and that it would be a real shame if you don’t choose a new turbo option. It is pretty much the same engine, but which gets help from a turbocharged.
The result is a max output of 227 horsepower on regular and 250 horsepower on premium fuel.
2020 Mazda CX-5 Release Date and Price
The 2020 Mazda CX-5 will come without more important change. So, count on a typical launch date. That would mean sometime late in the year. When it comes to the price, base models will go around 24,500.
