It’s been a very long time since the Bronco was discontinued, but it actually never faded out from hearts of rear SUV enthusiasts. The legendary nameplate was in production until 1996. Since then, we are hearing rumors about how the new version is about to come. Finally, the famous SUV is coming back as the 2020 Ford Bronco.
It will come with a completely new design, with some very interesting design solutions. The most important thing about the new model is that is will be a true off-roader, based on traditional body-on-frame architecture, with serious off-road capabilities.
- Legendary nameplate
- Strong off-road capabilities
- Powerful engines
- LHigh price tag
As we’ve just mentioned, a body-on-frame platform will be the most important design characteristic of the new 2020 Ford Bronco. So, which platform will be used for the new model? Latest reports suggest the new SUV will ride on the same platform as popular Ranger truck, which is also coming back to the U.S. market.
More precisely, the Bronco will be heavily influenced by the Ranger’s SUV derivate called Everest, which isn’t that familiar nameplate in North America. On the other side, aesthetics will be completely different. The 2020 Ford Bronco will feature a super-boxy look, with super-short overhangs for better approach and departure angles. The front end will probably closely resemble the F-150 truck. Also, we will probably see two body styles in the offer, with either three or five doors.
The 2020 Ford Bronco will come in two layouts, with either three or five doors. We presume that the five-door version will be roomier. Practically, expect to see a similar relation between these two variants, just like it is the case with two body styles of the future rival, Jeep Wrangler. In any case, there is no doubt that both models will feature the same dashboard design, which will be heavily inspired by the model’s rugged nature, without too many digital controls. However, the exact details are still unavailable.
At this point, we know for sure that the 2020 Ford Bronco will come with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, which is good for about 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. We count on six-cylinder versions as well. A 2.7-liter V6 should be in the offer as well, probably tuned to around 335 horsepower. Finally, we could see a hi-performance version, maybe even with the Raptor’s 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers around 450 horsepower.
Some reports also suggest a diesel version, though there have been no words from the officials so far.
2020 Ford Bronco Release Date and Price
We expect to see 2020 Ford Bronco late in this or early in the next year. When it comes to the price, latest reports suggest that base models will probably go around $40,000.
