It looks like that Honda’s luxury division already works on the next generation of the popular mid-size crossover, which is about to come as 2020 Acura MDX. The current generation is on the market since 2013, so the next year could look like a good timing for a redesign, especially if we consider that shorter production cycles are something that almost every carmaker started to practice. There is no reason why Acura shouldn’t do the same. Despite the fact that the current model is still one of the best crossovers in the class, when we look at the balance between price and quality, there is always enough room for improvements.
- Completely redesigned
- Spacious cabin
- Efficient engines
- Great balance between price and quality
- Most rivals feature more stylish cabin
- Too practical for a premium crossover
The new 2020 Acura MDX is about to bring lots of novelties. Of course, we count on a new platform, which will make the new model even more efficient and provide a better overall driving experience. The current model is great in many aspects, but a better handling is something that we would like to see improvements. Of course, count on a new styling as well. We probably won’t see bigger changes in dimensions. The new 2020 Acura MDX could get few more inches in wheelbase, but overall proportions will definitely remain pretty similar. When it comes to the new design language, keep in mind that even the current model follows the brand’s latest design philosophy after the recent update. All in all, count on lots of subtle changes, but definitely, don’t on anything radical.
The biggest drawback of the current model is probably the interior design. In terms of styling and materials, most rivals offer more. So, it is easy to conclude that this will be one of the areas on which the company will put a lot of effort. Count on a better materials choice and more upscale styling, something that will put 2020 Acura MDX on par with models like Lexus RX, Audi Q7, Lincoln Nautilus etc. On the other side, we also count on the same or even higher level of practicality, as well as on plenty of legroom and cargo space, just like in the current model.
Some reports suggest that the new 2020 Acura MDX could switch to a new turbo inline-four engine. Instead of the current V6, we are about to see a new 2.0-liter turbo-four. It should be the same version that powers Civic Type R, which total output of more than 300 horsepower. We presume that the new engine will be offered as optional, which the current V6 will be reserved for base models. Count on a hybrid version as well. Most likely, the same but slightly improved version of the powertrain that powers the current hybrid model.
2020 Acura MDX Release Date and Price
The 2020 Acura MDX should hit the market in the second half of next year. We don’t expect bigger changes in price compared to the current model, which starts at around $45,000.
