According to some rumors and recent spy photos, it seems that the new Hyundai Sonata might hit the market soon as a 2019 Hyundai Sonata model. Although this model underwent a complete redesign last year, Hyundai is obviously still planning to release its eighth generation now.
When it comes to exterior of the 2019 Hyundai Sonata, this model is going to hit the market as a luxury sedan. Although its prototype has been caught during the testing session and heavily camouflaged, we have managed to notice what kind of changes and improvements the fans should be expecting. The new Sonata should use the same architecture, but it will probably be the last model to do so. To be honest, the last year’s model has not brought anything revolutionary in terms of design and neither will this eighth one. Instead, you should hope for some serious updates in higher trim levels only. For instance, Sonata Sport models will appear with an updated front and rear fascia. The front fascia will wear a distinctive mesh grille and adaptive xenon headlights. Higher trim levels will also get a rear spoiler that will give these models sportier and more aggressive appearance. The base model will probably get the so-called ‘signature cascading grille’. The front bumper is said to be more sculpted and you should also expect a new set of LED headlights and taillights. The new Sonata will probably offer a choice of 16, 17 and 18-inch wheels.
The interior of the 2019 Hyundai Sonata will be spacious enough to accommodate up to five adult passengers. The level of comfort and overall equipment will understandably depend on the trim you choose, so the best choices will be found inside the Sonata Limited. However, even the most basic SE trim will not disappoint you. Hyundai will use some better-quality materials to cover the seats and furnish the cabin. The driver will get a heated telescopic steering wheel in higher trim levels. These will also provide an 8.0-inch touch-screen display with the latest infotainment system and features such as navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and premium Infinity audio system with nine speakers. Safety systems and driver assist features such as seatbelts, airbags, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams and rear parking sensors will also be included.
The base model of the 2019 Hyundai Sonata will probably keep using the 2.4-liter inline-four. Such an engine should deliver 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. The other option includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged with 245 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The new Sonata will come with a six-speed automatic transmission, but a rumor has it that higher trim levels might get an eight-speed as optional.
2019 Hyundai Sonata Release Date and Price
The release date of the 2019 Hyundai Sonata will probably happen in Korea first, in fall 2018. When it comes to US market, the new Sonata should make its debut at some of the International Auto Shows. The estimated price of a base model starts around $22,000.
