The Porsche 911 is one of the most well known sports cars in the World and thanks to the fact it has a very long running line of cars, there are quite a few models to choose from even now. The lineup includes the base S models, the GT3 and the Turbo, all great but between the S and the GT3 line there has been a larger gap than Porsche wanted. In order to solve that problem they released a few months ago the 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS which is the high performance version of the S model without all the usual exterior upgrades of the GT3 which may make it the perfect car for those wanting the power of the GT3 without attracting too much attention.

2018 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Price

Just as we said, the car has already been launched in most markets around the World and its price is unfortunately much higher than that of the S. In fact, the GTS starts at roughly $115,000 for the rear wheel drive coupe version and nearly $135,000 for the four wheel drive cabriolet version. This is a hefty 15 to 20% increase which actually makes sense because in any case, it comes much better equipped than the S model.

Let’s start with the exterior of the 2018 Porsche Carrera GTS because the car is surely going to impress a lot of people despite the fact it does not have the aerodynamic package of the GT3. The front end has a slightly different bumper, new HID headlights with black interior, all new 20 inch wheels with a center cap, very similar to those of the GT3. The back has also been revised with a standard sport exhaust system, new tail lights as well as wider rear wheel arches which are now the same as those on the all wheel drive Carrera S. It also sits 0.4 inches lower to the ground thanks to the standard adaptive suspension system.

Inside the cabin on the other hand, the new GTS is not all that new. In fact, the car is nearly identical to the usual Carrera S, only with a few mild upgrades over it. Firstly, the buyer get to choose from more standard color options and the upholstery is now made out of Alcantara and leather in order to create a really nice mix.

The most impressive feature of 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, or any other 911 for that matter, will remain its engine. This comes equipped with the same 3.8 liter naturally aspirated flat-six from the Carrera S. However, it now makes the same amount of power as the Powerkit version of that engine. It can offer 430 horsepower and up to 325 lb-ft of torque and it comes equipped either with a 7 speed manual or a 7 speed PDK automatic gearbox. The car is available with rear or all wheel drive and it is one of the faster cars on the road. The base rear wheel drive model can get to 60 MPH from a standing start in 4.2 seconds when equipped with the manual gearbox or in 3.8 seconds when equipped with the automatic thanks to the launch-control system. The car is around 0.3 seconds faster to 60 MPH than the equivalent S model mostly because its adaptive suspension system and the more aggressive gearbox software.

The top speed of the 2018 Porsche Carrera GTS is 193 MPH which is a bit lower than that of the GT3 but 2 MPH faster than that of the regular S model. The adaptive suspension system can lower or rise the entire car and it can also rise the front end when it needs to go over a larger bump such as the speed bumps on most European roads.
