The current model of the 2018 Nissan Altima has been first released back in 2012 as a 2013 model so it is not all that old. However, the car does not sell as great as it was expected to mostly because Nissan had to cut costs in order to give it a 3.5 liter V6, one of the only V6 engines in its class. However, this was not really necessary especially since there are cars featuring a small inline 4 engine that sell better than it. Because of that it became clear that it needed an upgrade but because Nissan has not said anything so far, many people thought that they were going to remove the car from their roster or even replace it altogether.

Engine wise, the base model of the 2018 Nissan Altima will stick with the current 2.5 liter inline 4 which is still quite capable and fuel efficient. It is good for 182 horsepower and little over 170 lb-ft of torque and it should be enough to make from the Altima a great daily commuter. The top of the range model will still stick with the 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6 but this may see a small bump in its output from the current 270 to around 290 horsepower and up to 260 lb-ft of torque. This should make it slightly faster as well as more responsive and it should provide a very relaxing ride thanks to its torque. Both engines will only come with CVT gearbox which Nissan is certainly going to improve, and front wheel drive.

The exterior design of the new car is going to be the biggest change over the previous model. The 2018 Nissan Altima will look almost completely changed and it will certainly provide a much more impressive exterior than before. The front end is finally going to get that extremely good looking V-Motion grille from the Maxima while its headlights will be moved closer to it in order to make for a more aggressive look. In the back on the other hand the car will get two new horizontal headlights, slightly slanted towards the center of the car, just like those on the Maxima. Unfortunately though, we are almost certain that it will not take the floating roof effect or even the coupe-like roof of the Maxima which has its advantages as it gives the passengers more room and bigger doors but it does take from the appeal of the car.

Inside the cabin the new Altima should be released with a new dashboard as well as better materials. These were the biggest problem with the current generation and Nissan is most certainly going to revise that. The dashboard as well as the door covers are going to be made out of a softer material which will improve the comfort of its passengers. On top of that the base trim level will be slightly better equipped while the higher end versions will get a new Bose sound system and an active noise cancellation system, similar to the one on the 370Z.

2018 Nissan Altima Release Date And Price

Luckily this is not going to happen because the 2018 Nissan Altima has been spied testing on the open roads in the US not too long ago and the end result might just be a bit better than we hoped. The car will get a new design which will certainly borrow a lot of styling elements from the Maxima or the Murano and on top of that it should get a new interior as well as slightly revised engines. The release date is likely going to be in the winter of 2017 with the car being ready for the market by the start of 2018. Pricing wise, the new Altima is likely going to start at roughly $24,000 with the top end models going for more than $35,000.
