GM launched its first volume plug-in hybrid called Chevrolet Volt in 2011. The vehicle is also known as Vauxhall Ampera, Holden Volt, and Opel Ampera. Thanks to this 5-door compact vehicle, the company won many prizes and awards. We bet that their favorite award is the 2011 North American Car of the Year. The upcoming 2018 Chevrolet Volt has been changed inside and outside, boasting a sportier look and excellent new drive train. The newcomer has also grown in size compared to its predecessor and it now accommodates up to five passengers at the time. It appears that the company prepares a lot of changes for the 2018 model, so let’s check those changes in detail.
We must admit that Chevrolet did a great job when it comes to the exterior design. The upcoming model now has a more dynamic and more flowing shape. The vehicle keeps its recognizable Volt design but it is now more muscular with excellently designed body curves and sculpted hood. The new headlights are now large. The grille has also been redesigned and it is now slimmer offering the vehicle a sportier look. The rear end of the car hasn’t been significantly redesigned, but there are some refreshments. Vehicle’s tailgate, bumper and taillights have been revamped so there is no more boxy design. The previous flat taillights are now replaced by more stylish units, which give the vehicle a more appealing look. The side profile of the car has also been enhanced thanks to the lower overhangs sculpted character lines and sloping roof. The vehicle is 180.04 inches long, 71.2 inches wide and 56.4 inches tall.
The interior design of the 2018 Chevrolet Volt represents an evolution rather than a revolution. This means that it has received minor refreshments for better driving feel. It is modern and appealing. The cabin now gets better-placed controls. It has the same 8 inch reconfigurable instrument cluster but graphics are brand-new with more data. There is also an 8 inch touchscreen that found its spot above the center stack with the access to the great MyLink system. We have already mentioned that the new cabin accommodates up to five passengers at the time and offers more legroom than the vehicle it replaces. Some of the features you will get with the newcomer include rearview camera, lane keep assist, park assist, rear cross traffic alert, and many others.
The upcoming model will be powered by a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine whose fuel economy is rated at 42 miles per gallon without battery pack’ or electric motors’ help. The vehicle can accelerate from naught to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds and from 0 to 30 mph in only 2.6 seconds.
