2019 Audi R8 is the second generation of the popular model, which could get another version of the engine for lower fuel consumption and taxes.
As spy photos showed, 2019 Audi R8 will have some additions to the exterior design, which show that the manufacturer has planned to make it for fast driving. There are two large exhausts on the sides and mesh line across the rear end for extra cooling of the engine.
There are so many rumors and speculations about the engine in 2019 Audi R8 and its trim versions. As entry model has V10 engine, it was expected that the manufacturer will decrease the engine to V6, so its 2.9-liter model could have 444 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. In some cases, it is possible to expect even 500 horses which are almost the same as on the current V10 model. Another reason for placing slightly smaller engine under the hood is planning to make a mild-hybrid version of it, made by Valeo, as on RS5 Coupe, Panamera 4C, and RS4 Avant.
Even though the magazine Motoring said that R8 with this engine will be debuted on next New York Auto Show, there are rumors that it will not happen. It is better to say that only one magazine Road&Track said that, citing the trustworthy source in Audi. As they said, this engine is not in planes for this year, as there is no confirmation that they have ever planned seriously to make one of these engines in Audi. That is pretty much confusing since those in Audi repeated few times that they are planning to make V6 model and downsize current 5.2-liter engine to 2.9 and also after serious legislation about taxes on cars bigger than 4.0-liter. It is possible that they mixed up couple information that Audi sent in back few months.
This also means that current 4.2-liter V8 is going to the history, while the manufacturer is still offering V10 engine under the hood, especially in its higher trims. One of them is 2019 Audi R8 GT with 5.2-liter V10 with 536 horsepower and only 3.5-seconds of increasing time.
2019 Audi R8
As we said, the next New York Auto Show will show if 2019 Audi R8 finally gets its V6 model or not, but even that does not happen, the current V10 is perfectly strong and attractive for usual Audi buyers. Thanks to this engine it is current with the strongest engines in the class, but V6 will add this car on the same shelf with RS5 Coupe, Panamera 4C, and RS4 Avant, especially if it is made with a hybrid part.
