Subaru Outback started its life as a Subaru Legacy, but later the two cars went separate ways, since the Japanese manufacturer decided to offer both cars independently on all markets. The 2018 Subaru Outback was unveiled at the 2016 Chicago Motor Show and from the first minute it became focus of the attention of many potential customers looking for this kind of car. The Japanese manufacturer unveiled a brand new model, not just another update of the previous version. The new 2018 Subaru Outback has new exterior, new interior and some small changes under the hood.

Exterior

When you compare the Subaru Outback with the current Subaru Legacy you will have a hard time distinguishing the two – since they have similar headlights, front grille and front bumper. Actually, whole front of the new Outback is practically borrowed from the current Legacy, however, the two cars are significantly different in the back – which is not a surprise since the 2018 Subaru Outback is a wagon. On the other hand, if you compare the previous version with the current Outback, you will see that the whole car is significantly different – new design of the front and the back with new headlights, taillights, grille and front and rear bumper. Furthermore, the new 2018 Subaru Outback is a little bigger than its predecessor and it is offered with more trim levels. Along with that, the Japanese manufacturer plans to offer the new Outback with new alloy wheels and different color options.

Interior

On the inside, the new 2018 Outback is not the most luxurious wagon on the market – the Japanese manufacturer worked on getting the most out of the space in the cabin and to make it more functional, rather than making it stylish and luxurious. The dashboard has two displays – one is touch screen and it is used for controlling the infotainment system and the satellite navigation. The new 2018 Subaru Outback has two USB ports and Bluetooth connectivity as part of the standard equipment, which enables customers to charge and connect their devices with the MyLink application. The Japanese manufacturer also worked on improving the safety of the 2018 Outback and the result is improved air bags and the rear view parking camera as part of the standard equipment.

Engine

The 2018 Outback will be offered with two different engines – the first engine (and the one that will be offered in base version) is the 2.5l 4-cylinder engine that produces 175 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. The second and more powerful engine is the 3.6l engine that produces 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. Both engines will be offered with either manual or automatic transmission (default transmission depends on the region – for example, in the United States the 2018 Outback will be offered with automatic transmission as the default version).

2018 Subaru Outback Price

The base version of the 2018 Outback costs $25,845, while the most expensive version costs around $37,000.
