The Veloster is one of the more unusual cars on the market and even though at a first glance it may seem just like any other sporty hatchback, the Veloster features four doors. This sounds like something completely normal but it has one in the back, two on the right side and one of the left. This is because Hyundai thinks that rear passengers only need to get in and out of the car on one side in order to keep them safe of the incoming traffic. While this sounds like a great idea, the Veloster is somewhat lacking in most other departments.
The platform it uses is the same as that of the Cee’d which means it is not the most advanced car on the market despite its great looks. On top of that, the design might not impress everyone despite the fact it looks futuristic and quite fast. The newest model in the range is the 2018 Hyundai Veloster which has been released a couple of months ago as an update of the ongoing model which has been released all the way back in 2011. This new model features a completely new trim level as well as light changes on the outside.
2018 Hyundai Veloster Price
The things that matter such as the vague steering, poor suspension system and average at best brakes have been left untouched which is quite disappointing considering the car had a lot of potential. The price is identical to that of the older model so it can be had for just under $19,000 which is quite good considering how good it looks. However, the higher end models cost more than $25,000 which is not that great especially since the Fiesta ST is cheaper, much better to drive and similarly powerful.
The design of the 2018 Hyundai Veloster is probably the biggest selling point of the car and even though there are a lot of people hating it, there is an equal amount loving the way the car looks. Hyundai also released a completely new trim level with the Rally Edition car which has a completely new front end with a new larger hexagonal grille, new HID headlights with LED daytime running lights, slightly larger wheels and better tires, a completely new suspension system which lowers the car by a small margin and it should also make it a bit more better to drive as well as a unique blue paint and a center mounted dual exhaust system.
The interior has not remained unchanged either and the new Rally Version comes with a B&M short shifter which should improve the way the 6 speed manual feels and on top of that, the leather upholstery is now standard and the rear seats received a blue stitching in order to complement the color of the car.
Engine wise, the 2018 Hyundai Veloster is only available with a single 1.6 liter engine which is available in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms. Both of them come as standard with direct fuel injection and variable valve timing and both of them are similar when it comes to fuel efficiency. However, the naturally aspirated version of the car is capable of 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque which is not that impressive, especially since the 1 liter EcoBoost Fiesta offers more torque and a similar amount of power. The turbocharged version of the car on the other hand is much more impressive offering 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque which puts it right at the top with the most powerful cars in its class. Both engines come with a 6 speed manual as standard while a 6 speed dual-clutch automatic is available as an option. In any case though, front wheel drive is the only choice which is not ideal but the car manages to make good use of it.
