Toyota has finally unveiled the next generation of their popular SUV – the 2017 Toyota 4Runner. The model that is being replaced has been on the market for six years and it was expected that the Japanese manufacturer is going to introduce an all-new version of this SUV, but instead they unveiled a slightly redesigned model, probably a mid-cycle update, until they unveil a brand new model in the next couple of years. The 2017 4Runner brings some small changes on the exterior and the interior, while the powertrain options have been simplified.

Exterior

On the outside, the 2017 4Runner looks a lot like its predecessor and without comparing them side by side it is difficult to distinguish the new model from the older. Still, the new 4Runner has a new and redesigned front with new headlights, which now have integrated LED daytime running lights, new black mesh grille which is divided in two by a large plastic bridge (which is in the color of the car and houses the Toyota logo) and with the new front bumper, which is now made out of metal. The back of the car now has new taillights with LED elements, different rear bumper with integrated rear diffuser and a new rear spoiler. Furthermore, the Japanese manufacturer plans to offer the 2017 Toyota 4Runner in more trim levels than ever before and it will available as part of the Toyota special TRD Pro Series.

Interior

When it comes to the interior, the Japanese manufacturer wanted to improve the interior that was in the previous model and not change it too much. The result is much improved interior with more features and high quality materials. The interesting thing about the 2017 Toyota 4Runner is that three different seating options are available – classic fabric cloth, SofTex and perforated leather upholstery. The boxy exterior of the 4Runner enables the interior to be quite spacious and to offer both comfort and functionality. The new 4Runner will be offered with either two or three rows of seats, which means that the second version of the 4Runner will be able to take up to seven adult passengers. The dashboard looks like it was taken from a pickup, but it is made out of high quality materials and it has lots of interesting features – like the quite big 6.1-inch touch screen display and JBL premium audio system.

Engine

The Japanese manufacturer decided to offer the 4Runner with only one engine and to cut the rest, so the new 4Runner only comes with 4.0l V6 engine that develops 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. This engine is going to be paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission, while the customers will be able to choose between rear wheel and all wheel drive.

Price

The price of the base version of the 2017 4Runner should start around $34,210, while the 2017 Toyota 4Runner Limited cost around $42,525.
